Figures and Tables
• All figures and tables referred to in the text or reproduced in an essay, assignment or presentation, must be cited in-text and included in your reference list.
• Use the term Figure for:
• Use the term Table for text and/or numbers arranged in columns and rows.
• If a figure or table that you are using has been previously published, you must acknowledge the original source. Include the acknowledgement of a source below each figure or table in the footnote (caption) section, then place a reference number in parentheses corresponding to your reference list entry. The reference list entry will contain the information for locating the original source of the table or figure.
• Please note the following copyright guidelines for reproducing figures or tables:
Students submitting assignments generally don't need to obtain permission to reproduce a figure or table in their work, as long as the original source is acknowledged and the work is not posted online or shared outside Murdoch University in any way.
• See the Citing Images and Tables page for guidance on placement and citing figures and tables in text.
• For Figures and Tables sourced online, unless they appear in a PDF version, there may be no page number. In these cases, instead of the page number, provide the extent of the figure or table as an approximate number of pages, screens or paragraphs.
