MLA - Referencing Guide

Course Materials

Information

Course material should not be referenced, unless it contains original material.
   Instead, you should go to the original source of the research on which the lecture was based, then cite the original work.

 Author names should be given as they appear on the source document.

• Article titles, journal titles and sub-titles are given maximal capitalisation (title case).

• Lecture titles are enclosed within quotation marks and unit/course titles are italicised

Add material descriptive label after title  e.g. PowerPoint slides, Lecture notes.

 Include URLs that provide information on where the work was found

• Include the name of the database used to source the material (e.g. Moodle).

Do include the protocol (http:// or https://) with DOIs

Do not include the protocol (http:// or https://) in URLs unless hyperlinking to the resource (unless using a software program such as EndNote that does not allow links without the protocol).

 Cite by title if no author is given.

The authors' names are given as they appear on the publication you have used, i.e., use full first name where provided or first name initials where initials only are provided.

Titles are given maximal capitalisation (title case).

Lectures (recordings accessed via LMS):

Author, Given Names. "Title of the Lecture: Subtitle." Unit Code: Unit Name, Day Month Year of Lecture, University Name. URL if appropriate. Class lecture. 

 

PowerPoint slides (accessed via LMS):

Author, Given Names. "Title of the Slide Presentation: Subtitle." Unit Code: Unit Name, Day Month Year of PowerPoint, University Name. URL if appropriate. PowerPoint slides.
