To ensure any AI functionality available in our databases and systems aligns with Murdoch University's Guiding Principles for Generative AI, and is compliant with the requirements of Murdoch’s Artificial Intelligence Competency Centre, each tool is tested by our Library Generative AI working group.
We have designed an assessment rubric that rigorously tests the tool or functionality against several categories of criteria:
Functionality: accuracy, ease of use, transparency, reliability, relevancy;
Accessibility: compliance with accessibility standards, cost of use;
Technical: operating systems and browser requirements, additional download requirements, administrative workload;
Privacy, data protection, and rights: authentication, user control over data;
Ethics: bias and fairness, copyright considerations, ethics of parent company, energy efficiency.
The AI tools tested must pass the criteria listed above to be considered for use. The tools listed in this guide have been tested by our Generative AI working group*. The full assessment rubric can be viewed in the Murdoch University Research Portal:
*Any AI use must comply with the Guiding Principles for Generative AI, the requirements of your Unit Coordinator, or the Graduate Research Office. Please see Further support for guidance on allowable AI use.
