My Unit Readings: Guide for Teaching Staff

Add textbook information

A guide for teaching staff who wish to maintain their own reading lists in My Unit Readings.

How to add textbook information

Unit coordinators are required to keep textbook information up to date in their reading lists to ensure students purchase the correct textbook for their unit. To add textbook details to reading lists, complete the Unit Textbook Selection form below with the details of each textbook, including title, ISBN, edition/year and whether it is an essential textbook or recommended textbook. Essential textbooks are those that students are required to purchase for their unit.

Once you have added essential textbooks to your reading list, the Library will purchase copies of the textbooks according to the table below.

Alternatively, an unlimited user licence for e-books may be purchased for the Library when availability or price allows.

The deadlines for textbook recommendations can be found in the ‘Request cut off dates’ section on the Library website. Details must be supplied by each deadline to ensure textbook availability for the start of the next teaching period.

How students can access or purchase textbooks

The Library provides access to many textbooks as ebooks or print copies.

However, students can choose to either purchase textbooks using The School Locker (our University textbook partner) or get access via Perlego (a paid subscription service). If items are available via either of these methods, links will be automatically provided against the item on unit reading lists in My Unit Readings.

Alternatively, students are free to use a variety of other textbook suppliers to purchase textbooks independently.

Students should contact unit coordinators directly to confirm textbook details before they purchase.
