About ProQuest Ebook Central

ProQuest Ebook Central has a wide selection of eBooks available in all subject areas.

To begin reading an eBook, click the 'Read Online' link or select a chapter from the Table of Contents on the eBook landing page.

Some eBooks have limits on the number of simultaneous users, this information is displayed under 'Availability' on the eBook landing page. If all copies are in use, check back later. When you are finished, we recommend closing your browser to allow other users to access the eBook.

Download a chapter (recommended - Adobe Digital Editions not required)

To download a chapter of a book, from the book detail page click on Download PDF Chapter or scroll down to the table of contents and click Download PDF button.

Chapter downloads are limited to a portion of the eBook but refresh daily allowing users to download a chapter and come back the next day to download more.

Download an entire book (only enabled for some titles)

If enabled, you can download a complete book by choosing the 'Full Download' button on the eBook landing page or in the icons above the reader view. You will then be prompted to enter your Murdoch University username and password. Downloading an eBook does not affect your borrowing limits in My Library.

The Adobe Digital Editions program is required to download an entire eBook. Adobe Digital Editions is available on all Murdoch PCs or can be downloaded for free onto your own device.

Note where the download button is greyed out download is not allowed.

Printing and copying allowances

The copy and print limits on most Ebook Central books are based on a percentage of the number of pages in the book.

Some publishers set more restrictive limits for copying and printing. The limits can be viewed on the book detail page. Some books are Read Online only and no copying or downloading is available due to publisher restrictions (eg. Gale Cengage).

To print, use the "Print to PDF" icon in the 'Read Online' view

To copy the text of a whole page, use the "Copy" icon above in the 'Read Online' view. To copy specific text, select it and use the "Copy" icon.

Limited User eBooks

Books with limited users allow only a certain number of users to view the ebook at the same time. Most of our limited-user ebooks allow either one or three simultaneous users.

If the book is in use by the maximum number of simultaneous users, you will see a message stating that all available copies of the book are currently in use.
