  • On 10 March 2017, changes to this legislation came into effect for the taking of blood samples for forensic purposes in Emergency Departments.
    The taking of blood samples is intended for the use in crashes that result in serious or fatal injury.
    The changes improves the collection of evidence by: increasing the window for the collection of samples to 12 hours, removing formalities around assessing culpability, and enabling the blood sample to be taken by a competent purpose other than a doctor or nurse.
