What is Citing and Referencing?

A citation or reference is a consistent method of acknowledging another person's idea(s) which you have used in your own essay or assignment.

Students writing History essays are often advised to use the Footnote/Endnote style. However, always check with your unit co-ordinator or tutor before submitting your assignments, as their style preference may vary from the guidelines presented here.

There are different styles which format the information differently, so select the style you need and take a look at some examples in the Library publication How to Cite References
