The Commonwealth act dealing with the environment is known as the epbc act, administered by the Department of Environment, Heritage, Water and the Arts. Refer to the website for epbc act information and policies.
There are two western Australian government departments that deal mainly with the environment, the Department of Environment and Conservation and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

The Department of Environment and Conservation deals with environmental protection, conservation, contaminated sites, pollution and environmental impact assessments. See the Policies and Legislation section of the department website for information on the Environmental Protection act and related acts.

The EPA is an independent authority with the broad objective of protecting the states environment. the EPA provides advice to the Minister and provides public statements on matters of environmental importance.
