Book Chapters in ECMS

Book chapters are sometimes scanned and placed in the Electronic Course Materials Service (ECMS).  To access these go to the Library Catalogue and search under your Unit Name or Code or by the name of the Unit Coordinator.

Find Chapters in Books

You have been given this reference in a reading list.  How would you find it in the Library?

  • Brown, David. 2001. Governmentality and law and order. In Rethinking Law, Society and Governance: Foucault's Bequest, ed. Gary Wickham and George Pavlich, 109-121. Oxford: Hart for the Onati Institute for the Sociology of Law.

This is a book chapter reference.  The part of the reference that helps you understand this is the word In

You also know this is a chapter in a book because both the place of publication and publisher are recorded (this is usually not the case with a journal article)

Now, how to find it in the Library Catalogue?

To locate a book chapter search on the title and/or the editor of the entire book (not the chapter title or chapter author).

In the example above you would search by title - Rethinking Law, Society and Governance

or

by the editor/s - Wickham, Gary or Pavlich, George
